Job
Referral Bank
A
BANK?
The
Southern Arizona Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) operates a JOB
REFERRAL BANK for use by its member veterinarians and those persons
looking for a job. The system is designed to allow veterinarian offices
and other employing entities to obtain information about prospective
employees. The following information will provide guidelines on how
to use the Job Referral Bank.
IF
YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A JOB . .
.
If
you are a prospective employee (either a veterinarian, licensed technician,
secretary/receptionist, or assistant/kennel/maintenance person) looking
for work, you will need to fill out the SAVMA
REFERRAL INFORMATION FORM.
Please fill out the form as neatly as
possible and return to the Southern Arizona Veterinary Medical
Association, 3275 W. Ina Road, Suite 130., Tucson, AZ
85741. Please DO NOT attach resumes or any other information.
The
Job Referral Bank is divided into 4 sections: Veterinarian, Licensed
Technician, Secretary/Receptionist, and Assistant/Kennel/Maintenance.
Your Referral Information Form will be placed in the Job Bank in the
category you indicate on your form. You may file your Referral Information
Form in more than one category.
Your
Referral Information Form will be kept on file for a period of 60 days.
Potential employers will be able to utilize the Job Referral Bank by
examining the Referral Forms on file. If a potential employer is interested
in you, he/she will contact you directly; SAVMA WILL NOT CONTACT YOU.
If you have not found a position at the end of 60 days and you are still
interested, you may request that your Referral Information Form be kept
on file for another 60 days.
As
a part of our Job Referral Bank, SAVMA also has on file POSITION OPENINGS
listed by firms looking to hire employees. You may examine these listings
by visiting the SAVMA Office. This information will not be given out
over the phone or mailed.
IF
YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYEE. . . If you are a SAVMA member
looking to hire someone, you may call the SAVMA Office and request that
the Referral Information Forms on file in the Job Bank be sent to you.
Non-SAVMA members and other employing entities must visit the SAVMA
Office to review the Referral Information Forms. It will be up to you
to contact any persons you would like to interview and/or hire. In addition,
your office may place on file a POSITION OPENING
FORM. This information will allow prospective employees to contact
you. These Position Opening Forms are kept on file until the position
is filled or until you request that they be removed from the Bank.
Frequently
Asked Questions about the Bank
Is
there a charge?
No.
There is no charge to prospective employees filing a Referral Information
Form or to prospective employers filing a Job Opening Form. In addition,
there are no charges if someone is placed in a position.
Why
can't prospective employees attach resumes and supporting evidence to
their Referral Information Forms?
We
do not accept resumes and supporting evidence attached to the Referral
Information Forms because we want to minimize the copying costs, staff
time and mailing costs associated with distributing these forms to prospective
employers.
Why
can't non-member Veterinarians be mailed the Referral Information Forms?
The
Southern Arizona Veterinary Medical Association operates this Job Bank
with dues paid by its members. This service is provided to members only
as a result of their financial support of SAVMA. However, non-members
do have access to the Bank by visiting the SAVMA Office.
Why
are the Referral Information Forms kept on file for only 60 days?
SAVMA
wants to keep current information in the Job Bank. In the past, many
people failed to notify us when they found employment through the Job
Bank. This reduced the accuracy of our information. Consequently, all
Referral Information Forms are pulled after 60 days, keeping the information
current for veterinarians and employees.
Is
it necessary to interview with a SAVMA staff member?
No.
The Executive Director and staff of SAVMA do not make recommendations
to veterinarians.
Is
the information in the Job Referral Bank made available to employment
agencies?
No.
It is the policy of the Board of Directors of SAVMA not to furnish this
information to employment agencies.
What
type of employment experience must a prospective employee have?
Prospective
employees filing a Referral Information Form are not required to have
specific employment experience. Anyone interested in the veterinary
field can file a form. Prospective employees have included veterinarians,
licensed technicians, secretaries, receptionists, assistants, kennel
and maintenance persons, bookkeepers, college students and high school
students. The majority of those using the bank, however, are technicians
and assistants.
What
kind of prospective employers utilize the Bank?
Most
of the prospective employers have been veterinarians, clinics, animal
hospitals and labs.
Are
prospective employees allowed to contact employers from the SAVMA office?
No.
The SAVMA office does not provide phones to prospective employees to
make contacts.
